ABOUT THEO:
Born and raised in California’s Sierra Foothills, Theo is the son of renowned environmental and political activist, Michael Killigrew. Michael was known for bridging the gap between environmentalists, and the people on the ground, making a living in our forests. He grew up surrounded by naturalists, who appreciated nature, but weren’t afraid to pick up a saw or light a winter field on fire to bring down summer fire danger. By this example, Theo brings a level of stewardship and ethics to his work that is rare. He cut his first tree down at 15, a dead Ponderosa Pine, with his first saw- a Husqevarna 257.
Soon thereafter he joined the local volunteer Fire Department, where he met a retired PG&E employee by the name of Ed Yilek- then the owner of a Woodmizer LT40. Ed trained and employed him at 18 as a sawyer and together they ran the Woodmizer as a business. At 21, Theo joined the Hobart Hotshots, where he was employed as a sawyer, cutting fire line with a Husqevarna 262. Since then Theo has worked for numerous logging outfits and in 2005 he and his brother purchased their own sawmill.
He brings over 20 years experience to his work, as well as a deep consideration for the health and beauty of the land. When not cutting and or running the Woodmizer LT40, you can find him writing songs and playing his guitar, or wandering off-trail in a forest somewhere.
